Matador Network is accepting pitches
We’re currently assigning stories that will be due at the end of December and into 2026. We review pitches on an ongoing basis. If you don’t hear from us in about three weeks, please consider it a pass and feel free to pitch elsewhere. But thank you!
Our rates for stories range from $200-300, depending on the extent of the story, any research/interviews required, the writer’s experience/background, and any additional work required, such as sourcing photos. Turnaround times are usually around three or four weeks, or occasionally longer for more complex stories. Articles are very loosely in the 1,100 word range. Payment is via PayPal only (per our finance department).
We cover travel worldwide, but remember that most of our readers are based in the US. Our freelance budget is small, and we like to spend it on stories that can’t be done in-house -- meaning they require travel and/or local knowledge of a place.
You can pitch across any of our verticals, but right now, we’re keen on:.
Pitches around sports fandom/travel around sports and sporting events (including F1, golf, tennis, and the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026)
Articles that tie your personal experience with a deeper topic (See: How the Northern Lights in Norway Led me to Indigenous Reindeer Herders)
Location-specific stories about any of the 16 cities hosting the World Cup, but especially Toronto, Monterrey and Guadalajara.
Stories around suprising travel trends and ideas (See: Why Rare Book Rooms are the Best-Kept Secret for Travelers Who Love History, NYC to Paris and Back in a Day: The ‘Out-and-Back’ Travel Trend Is Real)
However, do not pitch us:
Hotel, tour company, or restaurant coverage (i.e. do not pitch us stories focused on a single hotel)
Lists or roundups of any kind
Guides to cities/destinations of any kind
Diaries/blog-style trip recaps/personal “how TK place changed me” stories
Stories that could come from tourism boards (don’t pitch us “why TK place is the perfect family vacation”)
News stories (all done in house)
Shopping/affiliate/commerce stories
Stories around travel you haven’t yet taken
Post-event coverage of festivals
